KS2 Book Review Blog

Date: 4th Oct 2016 @ 1:45pm

This blog is for you to share your views on books that you have read and share your recommendations with others.

All  you need to do is:

- Put the name of the book and the author in the first line of your comment.

- Write your review of the book underneath (try to be detailed and include your likes, dislikes, favourite characters, other books or authors that are similar, etc).

- Give the book a rating out of 10.

If you see a comment about a book that you have already read you can reply to it with your own review. Or, if you choose to read a book because it has had a good review on the blog, then leave your thoughts as a reply once you have read it.

A few simple rules:

- Make sure the book is appropriate.

- Don't give away the all of the story (this would spoil it for others).

- Make sure your review is sensible.

- Always respect the views of other people.

Post your comment

Street Child by Berlie Doherty
This book is set in Victorian London and tells the unfortunate tale of a young boy called Jim Jarvis. From the very first page, it is clear that Jim has been through a number of struggles in his life and that being a poor child in Victorian London was a terrible existence.
The story follows Jim's difficulties in the dreaded workhouse and how he manages to survive even when meeting some horrible characters (like Grimy Nick). It is an exciting and tense read, which keeps you hooked all the way to the end.
Learning about the character of Jim, his courage and his bravery all add to the enjoyment of the book. Year 5 have really enjoyed reading this book to help them with their Victorians theme.
10/10!

Tom Gates top of the class (nearly) by Liz Pichon,
This book is about a young boy ,Tom Gates, and all about his life . In the middle of the book Tom Gates is in a bit of a pickle because a class bully finds a picture that Tom drew and he needs to get it back . It involves more drama, more Dude3 and a lot more Mr.Fullerbum I mean Mr.Fullerman . I have really enjoyed this book; unfortunately, I think it needs a bit more humour . I rate it 8/10.

Ellie wrote:

Midnight by Jacqueline Wilson.
This book is about a girl called Violet, she is 13 but not very popular, and doesn't get along with many people. She had an older brother called William (he was adopted) who is 16. William and Violet used to get along very well, until one Christmas their grandma told them a family secret, which they wasn't supposed to know (especially Will). Will then later on grew further and further away. One day in school Violet gets a friend called Jasmine, she is quite "famous" if you would say so. One day Jasmine comes over to Violets house, she hangs around with Will and Violet. They all play truth or dare, they tell Violet to go up in the attic, which is pretty creepy, she stays in there for 10 minutes but whilst she is in there she finds a box... Explaining why Will was adopted.

I would certainly give this book a 10/10!

George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl

After reading Tom Gates, I read one of Roald Dahl's favourite books ,George's Marvellous Medicine. It is about a young boy called George and he makes a nasty medicine for his horrible Grandma. Once his Dad found out the medicine's effect he used it on his animals .Eventually, the medicine ran out so George and his dad had to make more...
I rate this book 7/10!

Ade 5F wrote:

I like that book a lot because I really met the moral of the story which is that if you're a horrible person to children you will become less respected and shrink in population I say this because she was so horrible to George that in the end she was so small that nobody could see her again.

The only problem with this book was I couldn't put it down because it was so interesting. It is like you are reading some ones else's diary. The main character is Nikki J Maxwell, my favourite characters are Nikki J Maxwell, Britannia Maxwell and Makenzie Hollister because they all have different personalities and there personalities are interesting. This book is brilliant. Nikki helps a friend with quite a few dogs and they were lots of problems she would be lucky if she gets through them. I would rate this book 9.5/10
