PE and Sports Premium
The Primary PE and Sport Premium supports the government's commitment to helping children and young people lead healthy, active lives. The UK Chief Medical Officers recommend that children and young people take part in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. The Premium provides approximately £320 million of funding to eligible primary schools across England to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity.
The funding is ring-fenced and is intended to enhance, rather than replace, existing provision. Schools are encouraged to use the grant to improve participation in physical activity, raise the quality of PE teaching, broaden sporting opportunities and promote pupils' health, wellbeing and achievement. Funding allocations are based on pupil numbers and must be used in accordance with the Department for Education's conditions of grant.
