This term, Year 3 will be reading Coming to England by Floella Benjamin. The children will explore Floella’s journey from Trinidad to England aboard the SS Antilles and develop their understanding of migration, belonging and identity. They will write a recount of her voyage using paragraphs, prepositions, descriptive vocabulary and chronological language. They will then write a personal letter from Floella to her grandmother, describing her experiences, thoughts and feelings using first-person language and the past tense.

In lesson 4, The children wrote sentences about Floella’s school day. They used conjunctions such as and, but, because and so to join their ideas and explain her experiences in greater detail.
