Exploring Ancient Egypt in Year 4!

This week, Year 4 stepped back in time for a special Exploring Egyptians Morning filled with hands-on learning, teamwork, and plenty of excitement! Our hall was transformed into a buzzing hub of discovery with a variety of themed activity stations, each one designed to bring ancient civilisations to life.

At the Archaeological Dig, budding archaeologists carefully excavated replica artefacts from a sandpit using real tools – just like professionals! Brushes in hand, the children delicately uncovered hidden treasures and imagined what it might be like to unearth relics from the past.

We zoomed out from Egypt to explore the Indus Valley and Shang Dynasty, where pupils used devices and resources to research and record fascinating facts about these ancient civilisations.

Maths met mythology at our Tutankhamun Times Tables station, where children solved multiplication problems to colour the famous golden mask of the boy king. They also tackled the Pyramid Challenge, using their addition skills to build a pyramid block by block.

In the peaceful Story Corner, children immersed themselves in myths and legends of ancient Egypt, reading about gods and goddesses like Ra, Anubis and Isis through beautifully illustrated books.

At Hieroglyphics Handwriting, pupils had a go at writing their own names using ancient symbols – a brilliant way to explore one of the world’s earliest writing systems.

The Geography Quest had children labelling maps and tracing the route of the River Nile. They reflected on why ancient Egyptians built their homes so close to this vital water source.

Our Beliefs and Burial station explored canopic jars, with children matching gods to their jars and the organs they protected – a fascinating look at burial customs and beliefs.

Meanwhile, the Amazing Artifacts station challenged children to research mystery artefacts and fill in detailed fact files using their enquiry skills.

Finally, at the Egyptian Timeline, pupils worked together to order key historical events, learning the difference between BC and AD and developing a better sense of historical chronology.

The children had an incredible time exploring, creating, and investigating. The morning was a perfect mix of fun and learning – and Year 4 certainly made history come alive!
